Shore Green, Manchester

Shore Green is a special place. Purpose built to support people with dementia live independently in a safe environment for as long as possible.

Unlike a care home, Shore Green provides private self-contained apartments and bungalows in a secure setting with specialist on-site care and support.

Our aim is to help people remain independent and active in their local community. Supporting them to enjoy their hobbies and interests, with things that are familiar around them.

There are four two-bedroom bungalows, and six one-bedroom apartments. We believe in keeping families together wherever possible, so couples can move in together if one or both have dementia, this stops them having to live separately which is so important. Residents can bring their own furniture and memorabilia, to help trigger memories and keep things familiar to them.

Each bungalow and apartment have:

  • Level access
  • Their own front door with a doorbell, where residents can lock it themselves
  • Level access wet-room and hand rails
  • A dementia friendly design
  • Kitchen cupboards with see through doors, so residents can see what is in there
  • Safety devices on cookers
  • All apartments face the road so residents can see people and feel part of the community.

Shore Green is a safe and secure place to live, giving family members a peace of mind that their loved ones are okay. There is a 24-hour onsite care team and housing support team onsite Monday – Friday. We look after our residents on a 1 to 1 basis, we know that everyone’s needs, and abilities are different so we tailor our support approach, everyone gets an individual care and support plan.

There are also shared facilities for residents to enjoy together:

  • A lounge and a kitchen – where there are always lots of activities going on
  • Level access secure gardens
  • Animals – chickens, fish and a budgie
  • A guest room so family and friends can come and stay.

There is always a wide selection of activities going on, with the aim to bring back memories, help residents to enjoy themselves, remain independent and be part of there community. Some of the activities we run to reduce social isolation are:

  • Weekly 1 to 1 reminisce sessions
  • Sensory activities
  • Pop up cinema
  • Pamper sessions
  • Crafts and cooking
  • Music group
  • Animal safari
  • Trips
  • Exercise classes
  • Going out for coffee
  • Taking residents out to make sure they remain part of their community.
